“I’ve never heard of this?” Pittsburgh ‘upset’ by rumors of slugger going to IL

Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Brian Reynolds was rumored to be headed to the disabled list, but it turned out to be a misreport.

Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Brian Reynolds has been placed on the disabled list with an oblique muscle injury, according to Andrew Filipponi, a radio personality on 93.7 The Fan, who tweeted on Tuesday (Aug. 21).

The loss of Reynolds, the team’s starting left fielder, would be a huge blow for Pittsburgh, which has struggled through a seven-game losing streak. Naturally, it prompted a flurry of questions for manager Derek Shelton, who is scheduled to take the field at home against the Chicago Cubs later in the day.

“I hadn’t heard about it. I’ve seen the news, and I’m a little shocked,” Shelton said, denying the rumors.

“I’ve got a little bit of a back problem. It’s been there for a week or so. I won’t be able to play today, but I won’t be on the injury list.”메이저놀이터

To make up for the lack of depth, outfielder Carl Mitchell was called up from Triple-A. Mitchell batted .226 with a .286 on-base percentage and .349 slugging percentage in 69 games last season and is batting .276 with a .353 on-base percentage and .427 slugging percentage in 64 games at Triple-A this season.

“He’s been consistent at Triple-A,” Shelton said. It’s important to note that he’s also played some pinch-hitting. It’s an opportunity for him,” Shelton said of the call-up.

Reliever Yohan Ramirez was demoted. Ramirez had a 3.00 ERA in 24 innings in 19 games. He threw 32 pitches in 1 1/3 innings in the previous game.

Shelton said, “He wasn’t going to be able to pitch until tomorrow. Add to that the fact that I felt like I had gotten away from where I was at the beginning of the season a little bit, and I needed to get back on track,” Shelton said of his demotion.

Pittsburgh’s lineup against right-hander Marcus Stroman will be Josh Palacios (left field), Keybrian Hayes (third base), Zack Suwinski (center field), Carlos Santana (first base), Henry Davis (designated hitter), Tukupita Makano (shortstop), Conor Jo (right field), Bae Ji-Hwan (second base) and Jason Delay (catcher). Johan Oviedo will get the start.
