Yamaguchi Shun (36), who played for the Toronto Blue Jays along with Ryu Hyun-jin (36), announced his retirement from active play. 

Japanese media Full Count said on the 17th, “Yamaguchi, who suffered from an injury, made a decision. Yamaguchi, who received an outage notice at Yomiuri last season, announced on Instagram that day that he would retire from active duty at the end of this season.” 

Yamaguchi is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher who recorded 443 games (1160⅔innings), 66 wins, 66 losses, 112 saves, and an average ERA of 3.36. In the 2020 season, he signed a two-year contract with Toronto for $6.35 million (about 8.3 billion won) and entered the major leagues and played with Ryu Hyun-jin. However, his performance was poor with an average ERA of 8.06 with 2 wins and 4 losses in 17 games (25⅔ innings), so he was released after the end of the 2020 season. He tried to make a comeback in San Francisco, but never hit the big leagues again. 

Yamaguchi, who returned to Nippon Professional Baseball by signing a contract with Yomiuri in June 2021, achieved not bad results with 2 wins, 8 losses and an average ERA of 3.56 in 15 games (78⅓ innings). However, last season, he struggled with an injury and only pitched in one game (two innings).   먹튀검증

Yamaguchi said on Instagram, “The report was late, but he decided to put an end to his 17-year baseball life. My baseball life has been very eventful. He said, “Thank you to the fans who supported me at any time and no matter what.” 

Regarding future plans, Yamaguchi said, “Life without baseball will be amazing, but the life ahead is long. In the future, I want to study every day and try to do various things like myself. I wish you well in the future.
